Abnormal weight gain & metabolic syndrome:
As statistics divulge the realization that adult N.Americans and their children are supersizing at a shocking rate, the craze for the “magic bullet” to fight this country’s obesity problem has escalated beyond the latest fad diets to surgery. An avalanche of studies has shed insight on our ongoing battle, revealing that our increasing tendency to fat is not simply explained by eating more and moving less. Scientists affirm that overweight is a symptom of underlying metabolic imbalances. In this seminar, Dr. Adatya will explore the tendency to bank fat to the production of the stress hormone, cortisol, and it’s implications with metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance in mid-life. Strategies for prevention and management will also be reviewed.

Allergies & Your Health: Therapeutic Options
One in five people suffer ill health as a result of allergies or sensitivities. New advances in the management of type 2 Diabetes: Treating Insulin Resistance
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease that has a significant impact on the health, quality of life, and life expectancy of patients, as well as on the health care system. Exercise, diet, and weight management continue to be essential and effective means of improving blood sugar balance. However, lifestyle management measures may be insufficient or patient continuance difficult, rendering conventional drug therapies (i.e. oral glucose-lowering agents and insulin injection) necessary in many patients. In addition to adverse effects, drug treatments are not always satisfactory in maintaining normal blood sugar and avoiding late stage diabetic complications. As a complementary approach, medicinal herbs with anti-blood sugar raising activities are increasingly sought be diabetic patients and health care professionals. This lecture will present evidence-based information on supportive strategies for diabetes management and prevention, including: clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, nutritional medicine, physical interventions, hormonal regulation, and biological drainage addressing metabolic toxicity.
